november round up

Luna turned 10 and a few days later my Grandmother turned 100. November is birthday season. I have had two branding projects on that I have truly loved and a contract for a menstrual health supplement brand. A busy month with lots of family visits and a whole lot of cake.

We are approaching silly season and I am taking all the time to relax and exercise before life gets busier. In that time all these things I love immersing myself in become even more important.

Read:

  1. How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff

  2. Ask Again Yes by Mary Beth Keane

  3. Stolen by Ann Helen Laestadius

  4. Grounding by Lulah Ellander

Having read Hello Beautiful a few months ago Ask Again Yes felt like dipping back into the same society, a similar story, a familiar family set up. I wasn’t sad about it because I really enjoyed both books but I think this one had the edge just slightly.

Grounding written by Lulah Ellander brought my focus back to nature at a time of the year when everything feels like it’s hibernating. Beautifully written Grounding describes the seasons of a garden changing through the potential loss of their rented house and home in Lewes as it goes through probate.

Eat: Something I have discovered recently is going to The Dripping Pan in Lewes to watch the women’s football team play and getting pirate fries from the little hut. They have delicious marie rose (read mayonnaise and ketchup) on the top and a sprinkling of salty seaweed. You can take the dog, sit anywhere, they have great AF beers and the night we went there were fireworks and some striped-wearing fire lantern carrying bonfire night parade people there. I love it there.

Play: Not only was it Luna’s birthday which she had at Lucky Voice Karaoke but I also attended a birthday at Lucky Voice. I wasn’t allowed in the room when Luna was singing with her friends because I’m not 10 but I was for Bec’s and I was absolutely in that room shout-singing at the top of my voice. I hadn’t done karaoke in a very (20 years?) long time but had one of the best nights this year!

Obsess: Knitting. And The Scrap Space in Shoreham which you can drop in and collect any craft materials you want to get knitting or sewing or making. The kids could not believe it!

Recommend: NYAD. I love Anette Benning she is truly brilliant and is in two of my favourite films: Twentieth Century Women and The Kids Are Alright so I think she was brilliantly cast as the swimmer Diana Nyad who on her 5th attempt to swim from Cuba to Florida actually made it with the help of a brilliant team, played by Jodie Foster and Rhys Ifans.

Treat: I would say the main thing I have treated myself to this month is a ton of logs which I take great pleasure in staring at whilst they burn in my stove. Fire gives me a lot of joy and it’s the most accessible element when the rain is coming down. Hygge at it’s best, you might say.

Let me know what you are loving x
