february round up
I know very well this year why February was made the shortest month. We were the lucky recipients of three viruses and a lot of interrupted sleep. February has provided some challenges but it’s done! Phewww, here is to Spring flowers and longer days.
What I Read
Kick The Latch by Kathryn Scanlon
101 Essays That Will Change The Way You Think by Brianna Wiest
How We Met by Huma Qureshi
Spare by Prince Harry
Send Nudes by Saba Sams
I am reading Brianna Wiest’s brilliant book one story at a time, I am nearly done and I have loved it. It’s so wise and endlessly readable. My whole book is highlighted and has bookmarks all through it. I just want it all to stay inside my head without having to cast my eyes over it. Hasn’t that been invented yet?
I read Spare in 48 hours and I admit it’s brilliantly written. The co-author wrote Andre Agassi’s book which I’m told is very good. I’m not a fan of the monarchy. However I thought that I would see what Harry had to say (I don’t want to be on the side of the Daily Mail after all who hate Harry and Meghan!). There is no doubt Harry has had a hugely sad life, the loss of his Mother and the stiff upper lip, boarding school life that he was part of which barely addressed the death of his Mother not to mention the trauma of his life after. The bullying he has undergone from the media and his family has also been really unpleasant. I thought that he should have checked his privilege a lot more than he did in the book which I don’t think showed a lot of self awareness but he has in his own words been infantilised his whole life so it is hardly surprising. I did enjoy hearing about his adventures in psychedelics and Africa.
MONTHLY FAVOURITES
Watched… Who didn’t cry at episode 3 of The Last Of Us? Joe and I were both a mess. Just the depiction of life, beautiful, short gone-in-the-blink-of-an-eye life! Oh man…
Listened to… I’m having a deep dive through all the Andrew Huberman Lab podcasts on YouTube. He knows all the stuff and I loved this one about alcohol.
I have also been listening to a lot of Diary of a CEO. I particularly loved this episode with Max Lugavere about his Mother and all the food we should (and should not) be eating.
Turned up for… We Like Bass/Sober rave at the One Church. Danced for ages, wore glitter, chatted to my friends, was in bed by 11.
I also went to life drawing class in the lanes, which I really enjoyed. To be in a space where everyone is being creative, all in their own little worlds, with a common goal, it felt really unique.
