january round up

Hi, 2022! I crawled into the new year this year like an animal coming out of hibernation. Still not completely out. Getting ready for about 7 incoming branding and web projects. Exciting times. Speaking of which…

What I Read Dec/Jan

1. Betty by Tiffany McDaniel
2. H is for Hawk by Helen McDonald
3. Exciting Times by Naoise Dolan
4. The Paper Palace by Miranda Cowley Heller
5. The Lying Life of Adults by Elena Ferrante

There was so much hype about Dolan’s debut last year that I thought it might not live up to it, but it did. I love reading her and Sally Rooney, their Irish voices are such a joy in my head and their point of view on, well everything, is so refreshing.

I started the year with The Paper Palace and I expect it’ll all be downhill from there because… this book; the setting in Maine sounds like magic, and the author clearly loves it in the way that I love Cornwall, it was in her childhood and it’s in her bones. The relationships are believable and powerful and toxic. It’s set over 24 hours and 50 years and I want to read it again already.

MONTHLY FAVOURITES

Watched… Euphoria is back, my favourite. It’s everything I had hoped for in the first half but I am gearing myself up for the second half because I think things are about to get very dark!

Listened… Just finding so much new and old and great music at the moment. I have consolidated The Womenhood playlists here. And, not that anyone cares but I enjoyed doing my current faves here. As ever my WFH playlist grows in here.

Turned up in real life for… I went to the most beautiful sound immersion therapy session in St Augustine’s church on Friday night, oh the patterns that danced on my eyelids. How Friday nights have changed.
