november round up
It’s officially the lead up to Christmas. My toes are cold writing this at my desk and I have two candles on the go. Lovely, cosy time of year.
I am mid way through The Artist’s Way, which last week included, absolute shock horror to me, reading deprivation week! I made it through, juuuust.
One of my favourite discoveries this month was the Toast podcast, which included a brilliant interview with the Labour peer Joan Bakewell. This lead me to their blog and I absolutely fell in love with the artist Emily Ponsonby. She has returned to the island off Scotland where she grew up for lockdown, South Uist. In a similar thread my favourite book from this month I Am An Island is a memoir of a woman who moved from London to live and farm a croft on an island that she doesn’t name. She goes on a journey through the hardest of times, having to forage her food, to loosing her loved ones, finding wild swimming and finally back to friendship through music. It got me right in the heart.
WHAT I READ THIS MONTH
American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld
I Am An Island by Tamsin Calidas
The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
Turned Up Online for… Gloria Steinam at the British Library. The world’s most famous feminist. What an absolute inspiration and great mind.
Head over heels in love with… Sudan Archives, you know when no other music sounds as good. I did a new playlist for the new Womenhood Event. Find it here. Oh and come along on the 10th.
I watched a few great things this month, The Undoing which i thought was brilliant until a rather disappointing final episode. High Fidelity, with Zoe Kravitz, what an actress she is (and her clothes!) such a shame that this hasn’t been taken on for a second series. And my top watch of this month was the incredible We Are Who We Are. Directed by Luca Guadagnino, who also did Call Me By Your Name, I loved this with all my heart and if you haven’t watched it please do and let me know what you think. I liked it at the start but I LOVED it by the end.
I did a gorgeous project for a nutritionist this month and branded my friend’s new venture - The Self Care Sanctuary which has kept me zen dog all month with tapping workshops and regular yoga.
My next post will be in January 2021. This year will be done. It’s been the worst of times, it’s been the best of times!
